Journey to the Cross – Seeing Jesus – Matthew 28:16-20

16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.V-16 The eleven disciples went to meet with Jesus, where He had told them. The appearences of Jesus were:1. To Mary Magdalene. 2. To the women. 3. To Peter. 4. Road to Emmaus. 5. Disciples in upper room w/o Thomas. (All on First Day of the week) 6. Upper room with Thomas present. 7. On shores of Galilee. 8. To the 11 on the mountain (this event). 9. To over 500 witnesses. 10. To James alone. 11. His ascension. 12. To Saul of Tarsus. 13. John on Patmos.

Jesus will make Himself known to each person that truly seeks to know Him. Do you know Him? Is He your Lord, Saviour, and God?He can be, right now, today. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

17. They worshipped Him, but some doubted. Some did not know exactly what to think. But for the eleven, it was settled. This may have been during or after the more than 500 witnesses saw Him in Galilee, and to be sure there were some that were hesitant to believe, like Thomas was. Thomas was Matthew's brother. There are some today that still doubt, did He really rise from the dead bodily, or was it just an apparition?

Nobody has ever risen from the dead, except those Jesus raised like Lazarus. Most were not expecting Jesus to rise. The women did not go to the tomb to see a resurrected Lord, but show care for His dead body.

Doubt is not only the enemy of faith, but the opposite of faith; that is why Jesus told Thomas to no longer be doubting, but believe.

18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.

V-18 The great commission. All power and authority has been given to Him by His Father. Because of My authority and Power, go in my Name and Power to make disciples of all nations (people).

Are you a disciple of Jesus?

A disciple is one who believes in Him, learns from Him, trusts Him, and spends time with Him. A disciple talks with Him, in prayer; a friend closer than a brother who loves us better than we love ourselves and wants the best for us.

He proved it by not giving His best, but His ALL for you and me. Have you given yourself to Him?

That is the only thing you can give Him that He will accept. Until you give yourself completely to Him, He will not accept your worship or any other gift, since it is coming from a stranger.

19 Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

V-19 Baptizing them, a symbol testifying the follower has died to self and the world, and surrender life to Jesus and raised in the newness of His resurrection.

Into the name of God, the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit. They renounce any allegiance except to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Baptism is a symbolic picture of our death to sin with Jesus at His death on the cross; and coming up out of the water symbolizes our resurrection with Him at His victorious resurrection coming out of the tomb.

Baptism shows the world we have died to sin, self, and the world with Jesus on His cross; and are risen with Him in the newness of His life lived out through His children.

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatever I have commanded you: and, see, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Amen.

V-20 Teaching them to observe, to do all I have commanded you.Discipleship included teaching, knowing what and whom we have believed. As you go, making disciples, and baptizing, and teaching them; I am with you always, to the end of the age.

He imbues His authority and power into those who go in His name keeping this command. How the church survives. "One beggar, telling another beggar where to find bread."

This is why it is so important that the Word of God is faithfully preached and taught in the church today. We are to share our faith because Jesus commands, the church demands it if it is to survive, and because someone else kept the golden rule. They shared with us, what someone else shared with them.

Was He with you yesterday? Last week? Is He with you right now? He can and will be if you will surrender completely to His Lordship and follow His commands and leading as the Spirit of God leads you.

The end of the age is near, this may the last Easter you may ever experience. Do you have the assurance that you are saved from the penalty of sin? If not, why not make sure right now, today, as we celebrate and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ for His death, burial and resurrection today.

Won't you come? Come to the Lord Jesus Christ.
